Thompson: I Voted Against Ethanol Subsidies Before I Was For Them

fred-thompson.jpgToday, politician/lobbyist/actor and incredibly well informed and enthused candidate Fred Thompson took a page out of Giuliani’s “9/11 made me do it” play book. Thompson toured “an ethanol plant in Nevada, Iowa, and acknowledged that he has reversed his position on subsidies for the corn-based fuel” because of “national security.”

“I have voted against subsidies in the Senate,” the former Tennessee senator said. “But I think it’s a matter now of national security and we’ve got to avail ourselves of a lot of different resources, and I think renewable has to be a part of that picture.”

Don’t expect the “selective outrage” crowd to accuse Thompson of flip flopping. In fact, while conservative talk show hosts like Sean Hannity regularly attacked Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) for allegedly flip flopping on Iraq, the marriage penalty, the Patriot Act, No Child Left Behind, gay marriage and even abortion, they have ignored Rudy Giuliani’s, Mitt Romney’s, and Fred Thompson’s waffling. Selective outrage all the way.

UPDATE: Huffington Post picks up on another Giuliani flip flop the nation’s consistency cops will most likely ignore: Giuliani Attacks Clinton As McGovern-esque — But Rudy Voted For McGovern
