Iraq Redux: Bush Thinks God is Telling Him to Invade Iran

In this week’s New Yorker, investigative reporter Seymour Hersh writes that there has been “a significant increase in the tempo of attack planning” for war with Iran inside the Bush administration. Hersh reported that the administration has  shifted focus “from a broad bombing attack against Iran’s nuclear facilities to “surgical” strikes again Revolutionary Guard Corps facilities in Tehran and elsewhere.”

Today, in an interview with journalist Jon Wiener, Hersh suggested that “the president is essentially messianic” about regime change in Iran.

He sees this as his mission. It could be because God is telling him to do it. It could be because his daddy didn’t do it. It could be because it’s step 13 in a 12-step program he was in. I just don’t know.”

Hersh may be on to something. In 2005, the Guardian reported that “Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a senior Palestinian politician.” According to the Palestinian source Bush said:

‘I am driven with a mission from God’. God would tell me, ‘George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan’. And I did. And then God would tell me ‘George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq’. And I did. And now, again, I feel God’s words coming to me, ‘Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East’. And, by God, I’m gonna do it.

Let’s face it: G.Bush Jr became president through a nazi plot. 9/11 was arranged to be able to stay in power. That the conspirators now have the power of weapons, propaganda and the judifical system. That they’ll do anything to stay in power. Our power is in: democracy, unity and UN. The world war was declared by G.Bush Jr in 2001.
But we don’t have to either join or accept it.
We have to stop these people.Fast and thoroughly.

Nluc

The only regime change that’s needed is here in the US!

ebaumsworld

um lyke

bush iz hitler

ANARCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mdems

9/11 nazi plot huh? Bush is bad, true. But you are an idiot sir.

Thats all we need is more war! People need to realize that the US can’t afford more war, we could use that money spent on war in vast arrays of different research that could put the US tech sector way ahead of its time, but no, we have to kill the terrorists.

bang

George is doing a fine job…You can do better…
Puh-leez.

Bush is a biotch

Jason B.

You guys are complete idiots for believing such non-sense. Do you even listen to yourselves when you talk? The attacks on the WTC, Pentagon, and what was to be the White House wasn’t planned from the inside out. You actually believe a Palestenian politician when they’re talking about the President of the U.S.? I mean come on idiots get your mind out of the left wing gutter and start to look at the world rationally. You guys are no better than the terrorists who have attacked our country in the past.

Andrew

I think everything has an equal and opposite reaction. This happens to be the extremely bad side of the equation.
Check out the myspace or facebook group (one on each with the same name) “The New Times” for more info!

your crazy for not believing the government was not behind it. give me a break they knew and it was a great reason to go into Iraq which the fact is they had a plan to attack Iraq before 9/11 but needed a reason to do so. don’t be so naive wake up and relize our government does not have humanitys interests in mind.

Dave

Bush is merely a puppet for the Heritage Foundation and other special interest groups who have a Christian fundamentalist agenda for sustaining military actions in almost every predominatly muslim country in the world under the facade of spreading”freedom and liberty”. Why they would pick such a MORON is anybody’s guess. To invade Iran would be the next logical step for this criminaly corrupt administration. Thank God some conservatives are breaking camp with this agenda, however, creating such a global quagmire for the next president leaves us in a perilous situation with the rest of the world leading to a more ”police state” future under yet another imposed scenario of more ”terrorist threats”. God help us all in the coming years as our own ”freedom and liberty” erode away with these warmongering dictators.

Thomas

Well…are people forgetting Godwins Law? To state that a nazi plot is afoot is somewhat silly, imo. I hardly think it is any better to cry out ‘LEFT WING GUTTER’ as soon as people view the world differently then oneself however.

If The US declares war on Iran, for whatever reason (the lies regarding war on Afghanistan and Iraq fresh in mind), good ole George will lose whatever small amount of credibilty he has left in Europe. Not that he would care, though, since he’s not so interested in foreign politics.

If he wants to rid the world of the axis of evil he should take a ride to Burma (Myanmar) and rid it of it’s dicatorial regime….but why would he do that, there’s no money in it.

Seri

The real issue here is that yes, I could believe that those words could have come from George W. Bush’s mouth. Just having that exist in the realm of possibility is a problem.

Yes, I think I could do a better job as President of the United States.

Alix

Invading Iran is the stupidest idea imaginable, it puts more lives at risk than ever… if Bush what’s to attack an opressive regime, uh… how about Burma??!

Random

I think the end is Nigh.

Cara

No, Bush is not doing a fine job.
Yes, I could do better, and so could most educated people in this country.
I think we should bring back literacy tests, but not just for voters, for the candidates, too. They should also have to pass a psychological evaluation before they’re allowed to run for office.

Randy C

“according to a palestinian source” is all ya got?

So you managed to find a palestinian to smear Bush?

And that’s News?

Get a life. Stop printing rumours and lies.

You end up makeing people sympathize with Bush due you hacking.

“your crazy for not believing the government was not behind it.” I think that’s actually what /you/ believe - try working through the double negative…

Seriously. Bush is an evil little shithead who needs to be impeached ASAP, I’ll give you that. And it’s got to the point where I’m even prepared to believe he /might/ be planning some sort of coup before the next election. But Nazis? Hitler? 9/11 a false flag operation? And psychological evaluations for candidates, which would presumably be run by some public body with /absolutely no interest/ in the results of the election (because they’re just so easy to set up).

People like you guys give the left a bad name, and that’s all there is to it.

robay

Regime change begins at home.

We have the right as citizens by the constitution to call for a “National Conference” with 2/3 states support. This has never been done but it is high time we do this and cast out this beast that is our government before it is too late!!!!

johnnycanuk

Jason B must have believed the ” President of the U.S “. when he said Iraq had “weapons of mass destruction”…..and several hundred other lies.

Aril

Iran known as former Persia has never been conquered nor will it from a lackluster broken down Amerikan military machine. They can rain down nukes but the repercussions will be severe. Citizens at home will live in a police state now being set up all around you (notice the new camera towers). Once the economy is defunct and our currency devalued the Bush family will relocate to Paraguay where he the will reside in a 100,000 acre compound over top the worlds largest fresh water aquifer.

Markus

When old former german citizens who fled from Hitler during WW2, is now fleeing the US because they see the exact same thing happening…it baffles me how people choose to be so stupid as to not act on what’s happening.

Several observations from all the comments and the original article:
1) Bush & Cheney no longer care what te republican Party thinks. If they go down in flames they don’t care. Bush is not the least beholden to the Republican Party itself.

2) This guy (Bush) has years of substance abuse behind him, almost ceratinly including cocaine. The fact that he is hearing voices is scarry, but goes with the territory.

3)Hersh is right. There could really be multiple reasons for Bush to feel compelled to attack Iran, as he did Iraq. Once again it is a decision looking for a rationale. The real question is what happens after we let the bombs fall. Has any one really thought through what the next decade would be like. Even Israel, for all of its bluster should be chastened by their invasion of Lebanon.

4)Whether 9/11 was a false flag operation or not is largely unkown by the public. Why?; because the 9/11 Commission was a farce. Bush and his findings have kept as much secret as they can. No one should be blamed for assuming the worst, if Bush and his administration can’t be bothered to furnish all the detail of that day and the 6 to 8 weeks that preceeded it.

5) We are losing our freedoms to despots, and Congress for 6 years under Republican control did nothing. Now the Democratic Congress is not able to stop cloture or other Senate tactics.

6) My view is that we should seek to have Congress withhold any appropriations for Iraq, Iran or any new military ventures. Money is all that matters to these folks. It has always been about the oil even in Afganistan. If you think otherwise check out the resume of Karzi.

Good luck to all, as we have to stand up to these folks now or we will not have a country worth defending.

Chris Pell

I don’t blame the president. I am sure that when he was a child, he did not have to finish his meal before he got dessert. Otherwise, he would not consider dragging our country into a third conflict abroad before he finished at least one.

The Prophet

hey what a coincidence, God is speaking to me to he is telling me to kill everyone who is not christian, wow i get to commit genocide and get off scott free!
Thank you lord.

There is a religious side to all this interference in the Middle East, and this is because Bush and his administration are working for a clique that plans to ‘restore’ the Temple in Jerusalem and create a world government by an alleged messiah who will come from the Rothschild family. Anyone who investigates Middle East issues with an open mind will soon discover that it is being driven by this lunatic agenda.

Slaven Kotur

The fact that more than 10 people actually voted for this idiot put the blame on the american people.

if a king sits around and lets clergy members and advisors take control, well than he is responsible for letting this mess happen. And when people let politicians go unchecked then they are responsible.

Rusty

Bush and Cheney are murderers, tortures and criminals. I still cannot believe that so many Americas can’t See that.

Wake up - WAKE UP!

headlice

Yeah Igor, not like your government and Iran are in bed together. Didnt Russia plant communists here in 60s to influence the anti-war movement against Vietnam?

Hey Igor, you dont like America? Go back to your motherland. You couldn’t write a paper like this without getting some of that radiation treatment there…

Bluey Morgan

Bush is absolutely correct, any time he states that GOD tells him what to do…..!!!
He IS after all, GOD’s puppet
G = Gold, O = Oil, D = Drugs.
I rest my case!!

I think he confuses God with Ego.

Real Genius

Kent: Okay, who is this?

Mitch: [As the voice of Jesus] This is Jesus. And you’ve been a very naughty boy.

Mitch: [As the voice of Jesus] Hi Kent. Have you been touching yourself?

Kent: Yes. I mean, NO!

Mitch: [As the voice of Jesus] …And from now on, stop playing with yourself.

Kent: It is God…

It’s been an insane time since the 2000 elections.

If he is hearing voices and its not just paranoid psychosis from the coke…then cheney has the mic on the other end of the speaker hid in his pillow… but i think like most Fundies, hes just a psychopath who uses ‘god told me to do it’ as an excuse to get away with mass murder…

Forget oil. Forget religion. The middle east will have credit cards, debt, and will join civilization.

the times when “clans” or neighbors in the middle east regulate the law and order - and the “honor killings” are rapidly coming to a close.

The US is paying the debt to drag the middle east into civilization. We are talking about voting, lawsuits, and the right to fucking live free and have some kind of society. The rightg to not have someone that lives near you decide that you are to be killed because you dont fucking interpret some fucking book the same way that he does.

Why doesn’t the rest of the free world see this? WHY?????

why do palestinian parents teach their children nursery rhymes about killing the jew dogs? look it up - VICE magazine has a wonderful spread on this.

Where are the businessmen from palestine that can cut a fucking deal? make a deal and go for it. FUCK the world is tired of this shit and someones finger is on the bomb….

tick…..tick…….tick…..we are all sick of it…

IF MY COUNTRY WOULD HAD A PRESIDENT LIKE BUSH, AND PEOPLE WHO WRITE HERE LIKE ‘BANG’ I THINK THAT I WOULD GET OUT OF IT BECAUSE I WOULDNT LIKE TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH IGNORANTS. I AM SO HAPPY I BELONG SOMEWHERE ELSE WITH INTELLIGENT PEOPLE AND THE ABILITY TO HAVE BRAINS.!!!! I SAY THANKS TO GOD FOR CREATING ME INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO REASON.

Larry T

It’s not God telling him to invade, it’s zionists. Only Israel benefits from these endless Middle East wars. Iraq is the beginning. As we commit war-crimes in Baghdad, the US gov’t commits treason at home by opening mail, eliminating habeas corpus, using the judiciary to steal private lands, banning books like “America Deceived” from Amazon and Wikipedia, conducting warrantless wiretaps and engaging in illegal wars on behalf of AIPAC’s ‘money-men’. Soon, another US false-flag operation will occur (sinking of an Aircraft Carrier by Mossad) and the US will invade Iran.. Then we’ll invade Syria, then Saudi Arabia, then Lebanon (again) then ….

On a mission from God… my god, what is this? We have one of the Blues Brothers as president? Or is it the other way around? Hah! YOu get the govennment you desrve it seems and what with the Democratic Party not working hard nor fighting hard enough to win and people just sittting back saying “you can’t fight city hall” or that “they know” things we can’t be told” I guess that it looks like we get just exactly the type of fool H.L. Menken talked about. Bush is our fault and what we let him do becomes our fault. Pelosi says there isn’t much they can do. Pelosi would never have joined Washington at Valley Forge I guess. Likly her and Limbaugh would have had the Brit officers over for Christmas dinner if they had lived then.

Let’s face it everyone….when was the last time you had a few shots of bourbon, and snorted a few cocaine lines?
We all know the difficulty with our minds and our mouths when you combine those two items.
So, here’s a new twist…when you Americans go the polls at the next Federal election…take four quick shots of bourbon, snort two lines of coke…then go and vote!
You’ll be mimicking what politicians already do!!
